Sophrology takes its name from old Greek and literally means the science of harmonious mind. "Sos" (Harmony), "Phren" (Conscience) , "Logos" (Study / Science). It was created in the 1960s by neuro-psychiatrist Dr Alfonso Caycedo, who inspired himself from Western techniques (Erickson, Coué) as well as from Eastern practices (Zen meditation, Yoga, Buddhism), and other relaxation practices.
It is quite popular in parts of Europe, especially in France and Switzerland.
